AIDS Memorial Quilt
This year, Beyond Vanilla 35 is proud to host a display of the AIDS Memorial Quilt—one of the most powerful tributes to those lost to HIV/AIDS and a cornerstone of our community’s history.
Why is the Quilt important?
Today, the AIDS Memorial Quilt is the premiere symbol of the AIDS pandemic, a living memorial to a generation lost to AIDS, and an important HIV prevention education tool. With hundreds of thousands of people contributing their talents to making the memorial panels, and tens of thousands of volunteers to help display it, the Quilt is considered the largest community arts project in history.
To honor Beyond Vanilla’s Legacy, this has been made available to those attending Beyond Vanilla as well as the public.
There will be discussion panels as well as private spaces if needed, and volunteers and mental health professionals will be available for support. As an added benefit to the public, access to the Carter Johnson Library is also being provided.
